this is something that’s always bothered me: when people are like “you’re not a real programmer unless you use [insert editor, language, database, any given technology here]" i mean, you can extrapolate this phenomenon to anything like bikes/photography/music/cooking/whatever…it’s all the same elitist douchebag attitude.
i don’t want to single this guy out because this is something that’s embedded in development culture. i’ve been hearing this [see also: php vs. ruby vs. python, mysql vs. nosql, blah] for years and it’s getting really annoying.
granted, some tools are better suited to different tasks and workflows, but it really bothers me when developers have the attitude that unless you do things their way, you’re doing it wrong. people work in different ways, and few things are more frustrating than trying to arbitrarily do something a certain way just because a group of people have decided it’s the “real way to do it.” the specific tools you use are irrelevant…you’re arguing over preferences here, guys.
and sure, comments like the one in this picture may be made in jest, but even jokes about this kind of thing aren’t nearly as amusing as they are annoying.
[by the way the rest of this list is pretty handy and i’d recommend it if you’re into unix]
